Do not make the mistake of assuming that New England farmers hibernate during the Northern winter. Not so! Many keep up a steady pace of sales at winter and indoor farmers markets scattered throughout every New England state, in places like church halls, town halls, community centers, armories, and greenhouses. Cold weather is a time to fuel up with good food, and long winter weekends are perfect for making soups, casseroles, pies, and more. Farmers markets sell organic and locally grown produce, meats, and plenty of treats: baked goods, cheeses, jams, coffee, pickles, pet food, and much more. Some offer a bit of live music during market hours, on-site cafes, and fun for kids. Other offer services, like knife- and scissor sharpening. Yay! Good food and a bit of marketplace sociability to break up with winter days.
