Visit New England ("we") runs visitnewengland.com, visitconnecticut.com, visit-maine.com, visit-massachusetts.com, visit-newhampshire.com, visitri.com and visit-vermont.com. This page explains what we collect when you use these sites, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect, and why
Browsing the sites. You don't need an account to use our sites, and we never ask for one. Like every website, our hosting provider, Cloudflare, handles basic technical information such as your IP address and browser in order to deliver pages and protect the sites from abuse.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how our sites are used: which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are, and what kind of device they use. Google Analytics uses cookies. See "Cookies and your choices" below for when it runs.
Counting views and clicks for our advertisers. We count how many times each listing and banner is shown and clicked, as daily totals for each page, so we can report to the businesses that advertise with us. This uses no cookies and records nothing that identifies you.
Our newsletter. If you sign up, we collect your email address. The newsletter is sent through Mailchimp, which keeps your address on our behalf. Every newsletter has a link to unsubscribe.
Submitting an event. If you send us an event, we collect what you enter in the form: the event's details and your email address. The event details are published on our calendars; your email address is never published and is used only to contact you about the event. We keep submissions for one year after the event ends, then delete them. The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a person, not a bot, is sending it.
Advertising enquiries. If you ask about advertising with us, we collect what you enter (your name, business, email address and, if you give it, phone number) and keep it in Mailchimp so our team can reply.
Cookies and your choices
- In the European Union, the wider European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google Analytics and Mailchimp's sign-up tools only load after you choose "Accept".
- Everywhere else, they load when you arrive.
- If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal ("do not share my data"), we treat it as a no, wherever you are.
- You can change your choice at any time with "Your privacy choices" at the bottom of every page.
- Some pages include videos or maps from other services, such as YouTube or Google Maps. Those services may set their own cookies when you view them.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the services that help us run our sites (Cloudflare for hosting and security, Google for analytics, Mailchimp for email), each of which handles it under its own privacy policy, or when the law requires us to.
Children
Our sites are not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us what information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing [email protected]. If you are in Europe or the UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
