Festival of Trees & Traditions 2017 at Wadsworth Atheneum - Hartford, CT

During this event, holiday trees, wreaths and more decorated by area artists and others are displayed throughout Wadsworth Atheneum. Night of Illumination is November 30, and Hartford Symphony’s Jazz quartet will perform swing tunes and standards. Second Saturdays for Families is December 9, with lots of activities for the kids.
Five local performing arts groups will host installations throughout the museum: Hartford Stage’s A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas will offer a a stroll along London’s Victorian streets.
Connecticut Ballet will feature Nutcracker memorabilia and costumes. A collection of Nutcracker dolls will be part of the presentation.
Hartford Symphony’s display will evoke the holiday spirit with hand-crafted of musical instruments.
A pointe shoe tree standing seven feet high will be contributed by Nutmeg Ballet Conservatory, featuring Nutcracker-themed decorations.
TheaterWorks Rockin’ Christmas Tree is based on Hartford’s newest holiday tradition, Christmas on the Rocks.

The Polar Express 2017 - Burlington, VT

Engineers welcome families into the south entrance of the Wing Building, and each child is asked to donate a new children’s book to Santa’s sack. Conductors greet passengers as they board the train for their 20-minute ride to the North Pole (Union Station). Hot cocoa and cookies are served, while conductors lead a Christmas carol sing along.
Upon reaching the North Pole, children leave the train, passing through a sea of elves, as they enter Union Station. The Polar Express story is read aloud, as artwork from the book follows the page turns on a big screen. Once the story is finished, the reader shakes his sleigh bell and Santa appears and gives each child a bell from his sleigh. Free parking at Perkins Pier.
Time: Eight trains daily: Noon, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 p.m. (Boarding is 15 minutes before to train time.) The whole event is about one hour and 15 minutes.
