Maine inns are smaller, sometimes in historic homes, and they are closely tapped in to the local atmosphere, customs, history, and attractions. The strong point of ME inns is their individual, personalized service. Innkeepers are usually pleased to offer additional small services and to give guests the lowdown on local dining and entertainments. Inns may have onsite restaurants, and they are fully equipped with creature comforts like television and Internet access.

The Blue Hill Inn, a distinctive Federal style 1830s bed and breakfast with air conditioned rooms, is located in the sea coast village of Blue Hill, Maine. On an acre of land near the heart of the village and a block from the head of Blue Hill Bay, the inn is one of 76 structures on the National Register of Historic Places. Mature trees, a perennial garden, and a small grove of apple trees enhance the grounds. Individualized guest attention is the priority—innkeeper Sarah Pebworth and the staff of the inn personally oversee the details of each guest's stay. Full, “scrumptious breakfasts” with a choice of entree are served each morning and guests are invited to an hors d’oeuvre hour each evening. Amenities include turndown service with gourmet chocolates, coffee available 24 hours, a guest computer, and wireless internet service throughout the inn. The Blue Hill Inn enthusiastically supports the developing concepts of eco-tourism and sustainable practices and has been designated an Environmental Leader by the State of Maine.
